How to Restore Veeam Virtual Machine Files in Veeam Backup

This article explains how to restore Veeam virtual machine files in Veeam hosted private cloud environment. We can restore specific virtual machine files from the Veeam backup and replication (VMDK, VMX, and others). Restoring VM files will be helpful if some virtual machine files have been corrupted or deleted and we need to restore them in our environment.

Restore Veeam Virtual Machine Files

Run Veeam backup and replication. To start, from the home tab, click on the Restore option, and then choose VMware vSphere.

In the Veeam restore wizard, choose Restore from backup.

From the restore window in the backup wizard window, select the disk restore option.

Virtual Machine Files Restore Window: From the Virtual Machine List, expand a virtual machine backup.
Click on the virtual machine you would like to restore, and then choose Next.

In the Restore Point window, choose a restore point from the available restore points to restore VM files, and then choose Next.

Add Destination Path

Destination option: from the server list, choose an ESXi host where the VM file should be restored.
Under the Path to Folder option, choose the browse button to specify a location for the folder on the selected ESXi Host where files will be restored.

In the select folder page, choose a destination location where you would like to restore VM files, and then choose OK.

Veeam VM files to restore window, choose the boxes next to files that you wish to restore, and then choose next. By default, all the virtual machine files are selected.

Enter a restore reason for VM files, and then click on the next button.

Now review the summary for the restore task (VMDK) and then choose the finish button to start the VM file restore process.
