How to Setup SMTP Domain for Email Relaying GFI MailEssentials

This article describes how to setup SMTP domain for email relaying GFI Mailessentials. Setup SMTP Domain for Email Relaying

First, you need to install an SMTP server, then go to Administrative Tools, and then open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. Follow my article on how to backup and restore IIS configuration.
Expand the SMTP virtual server, right-click on domains, click on new, and then select Domains.

Welcome to the new SMTP domain wizard, Choose Remote, and then click Next.

Under the name field, specify the organization’s domain name, and then click Finish.

Enable Email Relaying to Mail Server

Right-click on the newly added domain and then select Properties.

In the general tab, tick the box “Allow the incoming mail to be relayed to this domain.”.
Under route domain, tick the box “Forward all mail to a smart host.”. Enter the IP address of the server (Exchange) managing emails in this domain. Please ensure that the IP address is in this format. [192.168.1.44]. Choose to apply, and then click OK to complete the process.

Setup SMTP domain for email relaying

To enable the mail server to route e-mails using GFI MailEssentials, you must forward all emails to the host that is running GFI MailEssentials. To route all e-mails from external to internal, you need to update your domain MX record to point to the mail relay server. Once all steps are completed, you need to test your mail relay server (internal to external and external to internal) by sending e-mails.
